Your donation helps preserve a significant piece of the American West and American history while honoring its deep cultural value and legacy in Nevada’s mining heritage.
In 2026, Friends of Sutro Tunnel will offer a dynamic mix of guided outdoor heritage tours, professionally interpreted access to the tunnel entrance, special events and cultural programming, limited-capacity photography and history tours, self-guided experiences, and tailored group visits for schools, historical societies, and tour operators. Look out for vibrant cultural and educational programs, arts events, festivals, live music, and community gatherings that connect the past to a dynamic future.
Preserve History: Safeguard a rare piece of Nevada’s mining legacy and honor the ingenuity of Adolph Sutro and the miners who built it.

Kathy Calvin

Deeply rusted iron-ore car wheels and a corrugated-metal bucket rest on historic rails, remnants of a mining era.
