Though the historic Sutro Tunnel & Site is generally closed to the public, there's a few ways you can see this historic townsite & the Tunnel. Here's how.

The Friends of Sutro Tunnel Charity's historic docents offer 2.5 hour Guided History Tours twice a month, during our open season.
On these public tours, you will:
These regularly scheduled Guided History Tours take place on the third Wednesday and the third Saturday of each month (from Spring to Late Summer).
The Sutro Tunnel & Site is currently accepting reservations for Guided History Tours for the 2024 Season through advanced booking at the link below.
You can visit the Sutro Tunnel & the Historic Site outside of scheduled tour days by booking a private tour in advance.
Your Private Tour will include:
Private Tours are great options if you are wishing to visit on a day we don't have a regular Guided History Tour scheduled.
You can request a tour date by pressing the button below and a Friends of Sutro Tunnel volunteer will get back to you shortly. Please request your tour date more than 72 hours in advance.

The Friends of Sutro Tunnel Charity is proud to offer educational school field trips to the Sutro Tunnel & Historic Site in Dayton, NV.
Teach your students about Nevada & American history in a hands-on learning experience on the Site where history was made.
Your class or school can visit the Sutro Tunnel & the Historic Site by booking a Field Trip in advance.
Your Field Trip will include:
- A dedicated historic docent tour guide(s)
- Custom-tailored to your interests & age groups
- Visit to the Sutro Tunnel Museum & Gift Shop
- Access inside the newly-rebuilt entrance to the Sutro Tunnel
- Outdoor bench seating for sack lunch or snack time (Bring snacks or sack lunch from home - not provided) -
Can be tailored to your timeframe & schedule (Recommended 2 hours for full tour)
Field Trips to the Sutro Tunnel Historic Site are offered free of charge to all schools, classrooms, and home-school students from K-12.
Enrolled students are free and a suggested donation of $30 per adult/chaperone/staff is requested.
